LaHug’s Captains 2019 – Round 9

0

New plan. Just pick the best mid playing against the Suns. Welcome back, Clayton Oliver! For anyone with only Bines as a loophole option, you’re fresh out of luck this week. Surely we’ve all got some 0s on our bench though at this stage of the year…

VC Options – Round 9

Max Gawn

Last 3: 109, 127, 145 (127 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 79, 156, 113 (116 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: 79, 156 (118 avg)

Max smashed the Eagles last season but then flopped on the big stage of the Preliminary Final. If Round 1 is anything to go by, it’s clear that Lycett is his weakness. No Lycett in WA any more and I think Max will go big. Prediction – 130

Clayton Oliver

Last 3: 175, 96, 105 (125 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 102, 93, 113 (103 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: 102, 93 (98 avg)

Don’t go chasing last week’s points. Oliver’s been good enough this year but the numbers don’t suggest using him this week. Prediction – 105

Brodie Grundy

Last 3: 141, 108, 134 (128 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 109, 113, 96 (106 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 141, 134, 160 (145 avg)

Rowan Marshall seems to be much stiffer competition than Billy Longer ever was so Grundy might not have it super easy this week. That said, he’s still an inexperience ruckman and Grundy is killing it at the MCG this year. Prediction – 135

Lachie Neale

Last 3: 114, 108, 142 (121 avg)

Last 3 against Adelaide: 110, 55, 105 (90 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 108, 91, 177 (125 avg)

Neale’s a good VC option any week because of his ceiling. The Crows gave up plenty of CPs to the Port midfielders last week and Rocky/Boak could’ve been huge with some efficiency. That means Neale could go huge this week. Prediction – 135

Dayne Zorko

Last 3: 114, 128, 76 (106 avg)

Last 3 against Adelaide: 106, 123, 98 (109 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 128, 93, 105 (109 avg)

Is Zorko back? Another option to smash the CPs against the Crows this week. Prediction – 110

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 99, 26, 94 (73 avg)

Last 3 against Bulldogs: 118, 151, 144 (138 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 94, 66, 154 (105 avg)

Danger loves playing the Bulldogs but I’m definitely concerned about his health. I wouldn’t be backing someone without a ton in their last three and playing through injury. Prediction – 105

Tim Kelly

Last 3: 162, 120, 86 (123 avg)

Last 3 against Bulldogs: 95 (95 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 86, 39, 111 (79 avg)

I’m sitting up and paying attention. Tim Kelly is a gun! He’s managed his worst two scores of the year at home though and I’m not sure why but he’s struggling there. There are safer options but as a VC, Kelly might still be a good pick. Prediction – 120

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 135, 107, 85 (109 avg)

Last 3 against Geelong: 86, 77, 102 (88 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 86, 77, 96 (86 avg)

Macrae finally scored well last week but this week comes across a team he struggles against at the ground he struggles. Not for me this week. Prediction – 90

Captain Options – Round 9

Zach Merrett

Last 3: 129, 94, 87 (103 avg)

Last 3 against Fremantle: 123, 95, 135 (118 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 137, 108, 121 (122 avg)

Zach scored a very handy 129 last week and comes up against a Freo team he’s scored handily against in recent seasons. Prediction – 125

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 132, 124, 128 (128 avg)

Last 3 against Essendon: 120, 121, 99 (113 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 154, 121, 139 (138 avg)

Well, Fyfe got off his suspension which is great news for people like me that traded him in last week. LaHug’s team finally gets one right! He loves to play the Bombers and loves Docklands so we can lock him in again. Prediction – 130

Josh P. Kennedy

Last 3: 116, 118, 115 (116 avg)

Last 3 against North: 27, 151, 136 (105 avg)

Last 3 at Hobart: 90, 136 (113 avg)

Aside from an injury game, JPK has smashed the Roos. He’s in form this season so he’s a legitimate option this week. Prediction – 125

Tom Rockliff

Last 3: 122, 58, 100 (93 avg)

Last 3 against Gold Coast: 102, 125, 137 (121 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 122, 79, 57 (86 avg)

Best midfielder against the Suns? It’s Rocky or Boak this week so they’re both instantly great options. Prediction – 130

Travis Boak

Last 3: 79, 102, 129 (103 avg)

Last 3 against Gold Coast: 125, 83, 95 (101 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 79, 129, 134 (114 avg)

Boak would’ve smashed it last week if not for 42% DE. He’ll kill the Suns and it’s him or Rocky this week if you have them. Prediction – 130

Stephen Coniglio

Last 3: 75, 87, 103 (88 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 157, 138, 38 (111 avg)

Last 3 at Showgrounds: 102, 154, 98 (118 avg)

Cogs smashed the Blues last time they played… and the time before. He’s so out of form though so I can’t recommend him this week. Prediction – 110

Josh Kelly

Last 3: 154, 116, 97 (122 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 205, 93, 118 (139 avg)

Last 3 at Showgrounds: 95, 130, 96 (107 avg)

I can predict this guy though. Remember when the Giants absolutely embarrassed the Blues, despite half their team getting injured, and Kelly cracked the 200 mark? He may well do something similar this week after a huge game last week. Trade him in if you can! Prediction – 145

Patrick Cripps

Last 3: 120, 123, 93 (112 avg)

Last 3 against GWS: 122, 70, 69 (87 avg)

Last 3 at Showgrounds: 69, 100 (85 avg)

I think there’s a good chance Cripps gets tagged this week but I like his scoring this year and think he’ll go ok. Prediction – 115

LaHug’s POD

Mitch Duncan

Last 3: 124, 126, 116 (122 avg)

Last 3 against Bulldogs: 116, 131, 101 (116 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 116, 87, 103 (102 avg)

Should’ve mentioned this guy last week too but Duncan’s been doing very well in recent weeks. Basically a safe 120 at this stage and a nice pick for C if you want to lock in a safe score. Prediction – 120
