LaHug’s Captains 2019 – Round 5

0

Neale, Grundy, Cripps all went huge last week so you couldn’t have gone wrong if you listened to me. Of course, if you had none of those three and relied on someone else into Danger… that’s the way it goes sometimes.

VC Options – Round 5

Options with Bines or Sweet as loophole:

Lachie Neale

Last 3: 140, 177, 140 (152 avg)

Last 3 against Collingwood: 140, 104, 106 (117 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 177, 127, 125 (143 avg)

If you’ve got him, you’ve gotta give him the VC. Neale is averaging 152 over his last three and scored 140 last time he played the Pies. Prediction – 145

Brodie Grundy

Last 3: 160, 132, 137 (143 avg)

Last 3 against Brisbane: 121, 110, 120 (117 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 110, 114, 73 (99 avg)

If you don’t have Neale, Grundy would be your logical VC pick. 143 over his last three and good history against the Lions. You almost have to use Grundy or Neale if you’re loopholing with Bines. Prediction – 130

Zach Merrett

Last 3: 155, 120, 108 (128 avg)

Last 3 against North: 118, 98, 130 (115 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 108, 121, 114 (114 avg)

Using Bines but want a POD? Merrett’s improved each week this season and it ended with a 155 in a huge win against the Lions. He has the history and the ceiling so another big score is definitely possible. Prediction – 120

Options with Sweet as loophole:

Travis Boak

Last 3: 134, 136, 123 (131 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 71, 95, 100 (89 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: 83, 95 (89 avg)

One of the four blokes I’m strongly regretting not having this season. Boak continues to score 130+ no matter what’s happening so I don’t see why he won’t again. Prediction – 130

Lachie Whitfield

Last 3: 137, 152, 123 (137 avg)

Last 3 against Fremantle: 89, 82, 114 (95 avg)

Last 3 at Manuka: 130, 89, 114 (111 avg)

Another of those blokes not in my very mediocre team. Whitfield’s got the ball on a string in recent weeks and teams aren’t curbing his influence (and are paying the price). As a non-owner, I hope the Dockers slow him down but I just don’t see it happening… Prediction – 130

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 63, 124, 147 (111 avg)

Last 3 against GWS: 101, 132, 127 (120 avg)

Last 3 at Manuka: 101 (101 avg)

I don’t like picking guys after a concussion so I’m not going to recommend Fyfe here. I’ll point out that he’s good though but we all knew that already. Prediction – 120

Max Gawn

Last 3: 113, 126, 116 (118 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 145, 127, 56 (109 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 126, 87, 127 (113 avg)

Scores aren’t as big as we wanted but Gawn is still clearly R2. He’s killed the Saints in the past but Rowan Marshall looks like legitimate competition this season so it might not be a big enough score for the VC. Prediction – 115

Jake Lloyd

Last 3: 109, 130, 124 (121 avg)

Last 3 against Richmond: 136, 100, 95 (110 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 130, 131, 118 (126 avg)

Even when Richmond win, they give up scores of 130+. Lloyd should bounce straight back this weekend and will keep those good scores coming. Prediction – 125

Captain Options – Round 5

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 110, 139, 127 (125 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 110, 141, 124 (125 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 139, 132, 110 (127 avg)

Unless you’re using Fort as a loophole or a rookie gets dropped, everyone from here is C only. Macrae should be good against the Blues given his history. Loves it under the roof so should be better this week. Prediction – 125

Patrick Cripps

Last 3: 169, 157, 116 (147 avg)

Last 3 against Bulldogs: 106, 143, 96 (115 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 157, 108, 106 (124 avg)

Nailed it last week with Cripps as my number one option. I was one of many to take advantage of his big score after Dangerfield flopped. Neale into Cripps is the golden combo this week for those that have both. Should be good. Prediction – 140

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 66, 128, 154 (116 avg)

Last 3 against Hawthorn: 160, 130, 141 (144 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 97, 79, 160 (112 avg)

Danger was shocking last week but he’ll bounce back for sure. He loves to play the Hawks and the Monday fixture often gets big scores. Expect something special to end your weekend. Prediction – 135

LaHug’s POD

Marcus Bontempelli

Last 3: 127, 124, 97 (116 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 124, 145, 120 (130 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 124, 158, 124 (135 avg)

A couple of good weeks in a row to the Bont and he’s caught my attention. If you’re using Fort or have a Geelong rookie out, you can loophole him this week, otherwise it’d be a POD C to go for if you’re behind in a league game. He loves to play the Blues and loves Docklands. Could be something big. Potential – 145
