LaHug’s Captains 2019 – Round 2

0
So… last week’s Grundy into Gawn combo flopped. In fact, my whole SuperCoach team flopped. Let’s see if we can do a bit better this week.

VC Options – Round 2

Brodie Grundy

Last 3: 81 (81 avg)

Last 3 against Richmond: 146, 157, 115 (139 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 81, 141, 146 (123 avg)

Last week may have been disastrous for the Grundy/Gawn combo but I have to back Grundy in for the VC again this week. He loves to play against the Tigers and Nank leaks points to opposition ruckmen. The good thing is, if he flops again, it’s only the VC. I don’t think he will though. Prediction – 130

Matt Crouch

Last 3: 138 (138 avg)

Last 3 against Sydney: 91, 76, 24 (64 avg)

Last 3 at SCG: 24 (24 avg)

If you don’t like Grundy, you’ve got Crouch on Friday night to consider. He’s poor against the Swans but we’ve all hyped him up for this year and he’s delivered so far. If Hewett tags, it should go to Sloane so Matt should be fine here. Prediction – 120

Patrick Cripps

Last 3: 126 (126 avg)

Last 3 against Port: 108, 109, 115 (111 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 94, 109 (102 avg)

I wouldn’t give the C to a midfielder against Port after last week but you can still consider Cripps for the VC. If you’re using Bines for the loophole, this is about your last choice if you don’t want to go the other two blokes. Cripps has a huge ceiling so still worth looking at. Prediction – 115

Captain Options – Round 2

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 97 (97 avg)

Last 3 against Melbourne: 79, 126, 138 (114 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 187, 94, 117 (133 avg)

I wouldn’t give Danger the C after starting the season with a 97 but you can VC him if you’re using Sweet for the loophole. Danger has a history of smashing out huge scores at the Cattery and has scored well against the Dees in the past (excluding the finals last year) so still one to consider. Prediction – 120

Clayton Oliver

Last 3: 71 (71 avg)

Last 3 against Geelong: 111, 127, 123 (120 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 127 (127 avg)

Clarry will surely bounce back, right? Good against Geelong and at Kardinia. Prediction – 120

Stephen Coniglio

Last 3: 154 (154 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 106, 100, 126 (111 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: 106 (106 avg)

Cogs was HUGE last week and would have been widely picked by those that didn’t start the expensive rucks (well done if that’s you). Should carry the bulk of the GWS midfield load for a few weeks yet. My biggest concern is Hutchings but he could go to Whitfield and Zorko managed a 112 against him last week. Prediction – 120

Dayne Zorko

Last 3: 112 (112 avg)

Last 3 against North: 142, 103, 109 (118 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 66, 103, 121 (97 avg)

Speaking of Zorko, a 112 while tagged is very handy. No Jacobs for North means no tag for Zorko and potentially even more points. He scored 142 against them last time and is a great POD captain. Prediction – 125

Lachie Neale

Last 3: 127 (127 avg)

Last 3 against North: 74, 90, 119 (94 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 119, 159, 93 (124 avg)

Neale’s history against North is much less impressive but his consistency paired with a good ceiling makes him a preferable captain. He should back up his 127 from last week, particularly if North are as bad as they looked Round 1. Prediction – 125

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 132 (132 avg)

Last 3 against Hawthorn: 119, 82, 69 (90 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 163, 131, 124 (139 avg)

You’d hate to have started Grundy and Gawn but not Macrae because he’s “too expensive” (seriously, FML). Scored very well last week and absolutely loves playing at the MCG. I can’t see why he won’t go 130+ again. Prediction – 130

Marcus Bontempelli

Last 3: 158 (158 avg)

Last 3 against Hawthorn: 67, 73, 145 (95 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 106, 120, 120 (115 avg)

The Bont is back! Probably a bit brave to call him a good captains choice again just yet but the Doggies midfield had a certain polish to it over the weekend. Is Libba’s return the cog they needed? If he can go back to how he was a few years ago, he’s a great choice each week. Watch this space. Prediction – 115

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 147 (147 avg)

Last 3 against Gold Coast: 160, 140, 157 (152 avg)

Last 3 at Metricon: 151 (151 avg)

Many coaches, myself included, regret not starting Fyfe. The injury concerns to his elbow might be valid but it didn’t stop him destroying the Roos. He scored 147 despite being managed in the last quarter and loves to smash the Suns. 150 coming up! Prediction – 150

LaHug’s POD

Rory Sloane

Last 3: 155 (155 avg)

Last 3 against Sydney: 140, 114, 137 (130 avg)

Last 3 at SCG: 114, 75, 125 (105 avg)

Well done to those that started Sloane. Good news again this week as he loves to smash the Swans. If Hewett tags him, we might be in trouble, but he plays on Friday so you’re only risking the VC. Best chance to go huge this week too I think. Potential – 150
