LaHug’s Captains 2019 – Round 16

You couldn’t have gone wrong with my top three last week averaging a cool 141. We’re getting towards the pointy end of the season now so your captain choice is as important as it’s ever been.

VC Options – Round 16

Brodie Grundy

Last 3: 133, 174, 84 (130 avg)

Last 3 against Hawthorn: 95, 105, 92 (97 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 84, 124, 144 (117 avg)

North are a team that Grundy is poor against yet he still managed a 133. Hawthorn are another team that Grundy is pretty poor against but I’m backing MCG Grundy this week. Prediction – 130

Luke Parker

Last 3: 106, 138, 120 (121 avg)

Last 3 against Essendon: 114, 125, 104 (114 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 84, 124, 57 (88 avg)

Parker’s 106 against the Suns was quite disappointing compared to what he’s been delivering in recent weeks. He’s typically good against the Bombers and I still think he’s a top mid on current form. Essendon did prove hard to score against last week though… Prediction – 120

Rory Sloane

Last 3: 129, 125, 103 (119 avg)

Last 3 against Port: 138, 111, 151 (133 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 125, 103, 140 (123 avg)

Sloane’s in great form and has been all season. Good job to everyone that has him. Better yet, he loves a Showdown! Prediction – 135

Travis Boak

Last 3: 114, 118, 121 (118 avg)

Last 3 against Adelaide: 79, 87, 85 (84 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 114, 118, 106 (113 avg)

Boak continues to pump out good scores this year. Not sure his recent form is captain-worthy but it could always grow as players stand out in the Showdown. Prediction – 120

Captain Options – Round 16

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 142, 148, 150 (147 avg)

Last 3 against Geelong: 124, 86, 77 (96 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 148, 150, 105 (134 avg)

Macrae was fantastic again last week and now returns to Docklands where he can go big. The Cats aren’t easy to score against but I don’t think it’ll slow Macrae much. Prediction – 135

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 83, 141, 149 (124 avg)

Last 3 against Bulldogs: 115, 118, 151 (128 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 99, 118, 108 (108 avg)

I don’t even know if he’ll play and, if he does, there’s a high chance he’s not 100%. That said, you’ve gotta consider him for his form before last week and against the Dogs. Prediction – 125

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 147, 91, 129 (122 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 114, 126, 62 (101 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: 147, 129, 126 (134 avg)

Fyfe is huge at home this year and plays there again this week in the Derby. No Hutchings this week and even if someone else tags him, Fyfe was tagged against the Blues and it didn’t slow him. Prediction – 135

Max Gawn

Last 3: 46, 151, 153 (117 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 121, 79, 111 (104 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 151, 153, 149 (151 avg)

I’m assuming he misses or is at least hampered by injury but Max at the MCG is mighty tempting this year. Prediction – 110

Josh Kelly

Last 3: 104, 128, 107 (113 avg)

Last 3 against Brisbane: 149, 94, 98 (114 avg)

Last 3 at Showgrounds: 138, 131, 95 (121 avg)

Last time these two teams met, Kelly went massive and Cameron tried to kill a bloke. I hope the latter doesn’t happen again but the former just might, particularly at home. Prediction – 130

LaHug’s POD

Mitch Duncan

Last 3: 86, 121, 94 (100 avg)

Last 3 against Bulldogs: 144, 116, 131 (130 avg)

Last 3 at Docklands: 124, 116, 118 (119 avg)

Duncan loves playing the Dogs but his form has been mediocre the last few weeks. If you think he can bounce back, particularly if Danger misses, he could be an awesome POD pick. Potential – 140
