LaHug’s Captains 2018 – Round 9

0

West Coast back to the Sunday night game so loophole whoever you please this week. I’ll be splitting after Saturday night for the sake of formatting but I think Fyfe will be a popular C choice this week for those loopholing Macrae. Do what suits you, just make sure you have the time to move the C if you need to.

VC Options – Round 9

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 156, 189, 141 (162 avg)

Last 3 against Adelaide: 118, 80, 128 (109 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 118, 79, 122 (106 avg)

You absolutely must loophole the guy with a 3 game average of 162. Lock him in. Prediction – 160

Marcus Bontempelli

Last 3: 132, 145, 79 (119 avg)

Last 3 against Adelaide: 97, 140, 82 (106 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 97, 127, 91 (105 avg)

The Bont is back. I think he’s a prime upgrade option this week and should be good against the Crows. Prediction – 120

Zach Merrett

Last 3: 79, 72, 111 (87 avg)

Last 3 against Geelong: 137, 98, 123 (119 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 79, 72, 114 (88 avg)

Two bad weeks after it looked like Merrett was back to form. I’m not so sure that Geelong will bother tagging him which makes him tempting but there’s way too many better options. Prediction – 105

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 137, 108, 94 (113 avg)

Last 3 against Essendon: 112, 99, 99 (103 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 137, 130, 135 (134 avg)

Loophole only as Danger is very inconsistent this season, but he’s so good at the MCG that I’m tempted. Prediction – 130

Josh P. Kennedy

Last 3: 73, 151, 125 (116 avg)

Last 3 against Fremantle: 137, 118, 144 (133 avg)

Last 3 at SCG: 151, 59, 92 (101 avg)

I feel bad for those that brought JPK in last week but he’s shown he’s quite susceptible to a tag this year. Banfield will surely go to him but he loves playing the Dockers. VC only but, again, there’s better options. Prediction – 115

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 126, 142, 114 (127 avg)

Last 3 against Sydney: 115, 145, 109 (123 avg)

Last 3 at SCG: 115, 109, 111 (112 avg)

If you don’t have either Macrae or Gawn, you’ll be using Fyfe for one side of the loophole this week. His consistency is just too good to ignore for the safety C option and his ceiling is pretty handy too. Prediction – 130

Adam Treloar

Last 3: 104, 110, 149 (121 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 72, 101, 123 (99 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 116, 95, 72 (94 avg)

Not great against the Saints but good enough form to consider. Prediction – 120

Brodie Grundy

Last 3: 137, 110, 115 (121 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 113, 96, 98 (102 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 114, 125, 113 (117 avg)

Grundy’s a tempting POD against a struggling St Kilda side as you’d expect him to dominate all over the ground. Prediction – 125

Captain Options – Round 9

Patrick Cripps

Last 3: 111, 94, 143 (116 avg)

Last 3 against Melbourne: 25, 109, 153 (96 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 111, 151, 92 (118 avg)

Cripps has been great this year but he still scores the odd sub-100, which is a concern for the C. I think he’ll be good but there’s better options. Prediction – 115

Max Gawn

Last 3: 148, 127, 168 (148 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 79, 111, 111 (100 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 151, 112, 117 (127 avg)

Why do I keep ignoring this guy? He’ll be my C this week if the VC fails. Three game average of 148 is awesome. Warning though, he’s typically poor against the Blues. Prediction – 130

Clayton Oliver

Last 3: 143, 124, 89 (119 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 116, 139, 83 (113 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 104, 128, 75 (102 avg)

Fantastic last couple of weeks for Oliver as he seems to do well when the Dees do. I expect Carlton won’t put up too much of a fight so Oliver should be good. Prediction – 120

Dayne Zorko

Last 3: 121, 164, 46 (110 avg)

Last 3 against Hawthorn: 119, 114, 109 (114 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 164, 37, 105 (102 avg)

Yes, Zorko is back. He got tagged last week and kicked goals to get to 121. He likes to play the Hawks and I don’t think they’re too strong a tagging side. Prediction – 120

Tom Mitchell

Last 3: 72, 127, 126 (108 avg)

Last 3 against Brisbane: 135, 103, 109 (116 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 103, 109 (71 avg)

Why is Tom Mitchell so susceptible to a tag this season? Last time the Hawks played the Lions, Smith copped the tag again. I think Robertson will go to Mitchell and I’m worried. He does like playing the Lions usually though… Prediction – 105

Dustin Martin

Last 3: 64, 87, 88 (80 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 155, 83, 148 (129 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: N/A

Dusty has gone huge on the Eagles before and would be a great choice for a sneaky VC. With a three game average of 80 though, you can’t give him the C. Prediction – 90

LaHug’s POD

Gary Ablett

Last 3: 98, 92, 144 (111 avg)

Last 3 against Essendon: 139, 147, 182 (156 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 98, 144, 116 (119 avg)

If you don’t have Macrae and you do have GAJ, I have to ask why you didn’t do the sideways trade the moment GAJ got injured… But it also means that you should VC GAJ this week. He adores smashing the Bombers and has had more than his share of huge scores at the MCG. Incredible POD opportunity. Prediction – 140
