LaHug’s Captains 2018 – Round 7

VC Options – Round 7

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 94, 135, 103 (111 avg)

Last 3 against GWS: 163, 196, 124 (161 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 94, 103, 163 (120 avg)

Of course I traded in Danger for his lowest score of the year. The fact is, even with the 94, he still has a decent 3-game average. The big thing is that he LOVES to play the Giants. Perfect VC this week. Prediction – 135

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 141, 98, 103 (114 avg)

Last 3 against Gold Coast: 108, 93, 154 (118 avg)

Last 3 at Ballarat: 145 (145 avg)

Jack bounced back big last week and now gets to play in Ballarat where he scored a big 145 last year. No reason he won’t go big again this week against an undermanned Suns. Prediction – 135

Marcus Bontempelli

Last 3: 145, 79, 105 (110 avg)

Last 3 against Gold Coast: 80, 121, 142 (114 avg)

Last 3 at Ballarat: 45 (45 avg)

Conversely, the Bont sucked last time they played in Ballarat. However, after last week, is Bontempelli back? He’s enjoyed playing the Suns before so definitely worth a look. Prediction – 120

Tom Mitchell

Last 3: 126, 75, 90 (97 avg)

Last 3 against Essendon: 116, 84, 87 (96 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 90, 149, 148 (129 avg)

The Saints were very late to tag Mitchell last week and he got plenty of the ball because of it. I don’t see the Bombers slowing him down very effectively, especially considering it’s their 3rd game in 11 days. Tom is probably worth a look if you go a Friday VC too. Prediction – 135

Captain Options – Round 7

Robbie Gray

Last 3: 89, 137, 145 (124 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 112, 110, 30 (84 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: N/A

89 looks bad but Gray managed to score that with the Jacobs tag. That’s pretty good in my books. Prior to that, he was on fire, and I expect that trend to recontinue this week. Prediction – 130

Patrick Cripps

Last 3: 143, 151, 92 (129 avg)

Last 3 against Adelaide: 126, 102, 99 (109 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 109 (109 avg)

Cripps has been great in his last two but Adelaide are a different beast. I think he goes good again but temper your expectations a little. Prediction – 125

Dustin Martin

Last 3: 88, 91, 141 (107 avg)

Last 3 against Fremantle: 130, 105, 133 (123 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 88, 91, 141 (107 avg)

No longer a reliable C option, Dusty has been very down the last two weeks. In fact, the only reason his last three looks ok is because Brisbane is a good team to play full forward against. I don’t think he’s quite right and I’m not touching him until he looks fit again. Prediction – 100

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 114, 151, 101 (122 avg)

Last 3 against Richmond: 142, 99, 128 (123 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 99, 107, 128 (111 avg)

Danger game! Do not give Fyfe the C. Walters down means the Dockers are now incredibly short on forwards. I watched Fyfe just sit in the forward 50 for the whole 4th Quarter on Sunday and I’m not watching it happen again with the C on him. Prediction – 95

Lachie Neale

Last 3: 151, 100, 85 (112 avg)

Last 3 against Richmond: 129, 148, 63 (113 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 129, 140, 100 (123 avg)

Neale, however, won’t be moving forward. With Sandilands likely to dominate the hitouts, Neale should dominate the clearances. I like him as a sneaky POD this week. Prediction – 125

Max Gawn

Last 3: 168, 151, 112 (144 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 56, 128, 124 (103 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 168, 27, 128 (108 avg)

Big Max is really killing it right now. Rucks against St Kilda have gone 129 and 93 in the last two weeks, and the 93 was Dawson Simpson. That’s bloody good news for Max. The only concern is 3 games in 13 days can’t be easy for a big man. Prediction – 135

Scott Pendlebury

Last 3: 108, 123, 106 (112 avg)

Last 3 against Brisbane: 130, 157, 113 (133 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 157, 113, 119 (130 avg)

I’ve mentioned it a few times for other teams but the Pies have 3 games in 12 days. Just about the only reason I might not lock in Pendles or Treloar this week. Pendles loves the Lions and is happy at the Gabba too. Prediction – 130

Adam Treloar

Last 3: 149, 127, 120 (132 avg)

Last 3 against Brisbane: 141, 169, 120 (143 avg)

Last 3 at Gabba: 169, 118, 90 (126 avg)

Treloar is in crazy form and adores the Lions. I’m worried about the lack of rest but that’s it. Everything else about this game screams dominance. Prediction – 140

LaHug’s POD

Joel Selwood

Last 3: 122, 106, 92 (107 avg)

Last 3 against GWS: 150, 70, 142 (121 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 122, 92, 82 (99 avg)

With most people likely to look at one of Danger or Mitchell, you could sneak under the radar and pick the other Geelong superstar. He loves to play against the Giants with two scores you’d definitely take in the last three. Why not Joel? Prediction – 130
