VC Options – Round 6

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 98, 103, 131 (111 avg)

Last 3 against Carlton: 124, 95, 104 (108 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 103, 131, 142 (125 avg)

98 despite being tagged is awesome for those that got on Macrae. I think there’s a lot more tagging to come, sadly, but Carlton aren’t ones to do it too closely. There are better options this week. Prediction – 115

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 135, 103, 100 (113 avg)

Last 3 against Sydney: 135, 146, 135 (139 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 103, 163, 138 (135 avg)

I had a big spiel written about how much better Danger is without Selwood and then Joel had to go and challenge his suspension. Regardless, he still averaged 130 last year when Selwood did play and his score last week seemed to show he’s back. Finally, he loves to play the Swans and averages 139 at Kardinia since becoming a Cat. Prediction – 135

Robbie Gray

Last 3: 137, 145, 103 (128 avg)

Last 3 against North: 81, 111, 73 (88 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 145, 85, 111 (114 avg)

Basically a must-have forward right now, playing in the mids. Gray’s only concern this week is Ben Jacobs but I think he goes to Wines. Prediction – 130

Stephen Coniglio

Last 3: 116, 116, 124 (119 avg)

Last 3 against Brisbane: 139, 122, 18 (93 avg)

Last 3 at Showgrounds: 126, 81, 88 (98 avg)

Super consistent this year but Cogs isn’t showing the ceiling we need from a captain. You’ve got to have him in your side but there are better loophole options each week. Prediction – 120

Tom Mitchell

Last 3: 75, 90, 149 (105 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 117, 71, 116 (101 avg)

Last 3 at Launceston: 106, 130, 135 (124 avg)

Luke Dunstan kept Rory Sloane to 15 touches in Round 3. Everyone will tag Mitchell and tag him hard after seeing it work two weeks in a row. Remember Sloane last year? I’m worried there’s a repeat. Is it time to jump off…? Prediction – 95

Rory Laird

Last 3: 110, 129, 105 (115 avg)

Last 3 against Gold Coast: 121, 115, 118 (118 avg)

Last 3 at AO: 129, 120, 124 (124 avg)

Like Cogs, he’s super consistent but rarely showing that VC ceiling. Laird does love it at home so expect some good 120s in coming weeks. Prediction – 125

Captain Options – Round 6

Max Gawn

Last 3: 151, 112, 117 (127 avg)

Last 3 against Essendon: 85, 150, 50 (95 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 27, 128, 124 (93 avg)

Huge on Tuesday night and has that 150 against Essendon from last time he was playing this well. Hard to ignore with his current form. Prediction – 125

Scott Pendlebury

Last 3: 123, 106, 113 (114 avg)

Last 3 against Richmond: 120, 82, 110 (104 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 123, 113, 109 (115 avg)

If you’d rather the certain ton than your high ceiling, Pendles is your man. Super consistent again at the moment. Prediction – 110

Brodie Grundy

Last 3: 113, 141, 154 (136 avg)

Last 3 against Richmond: 135, 94, 109 (113 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 113, 154, 139 (135 avg)

You saw what Max did on Tuesday. The Tigers don’t care if your ruck smashes them, as long as they win the game. This is good news for Grundy owners. Prediction – 135

Dustin Martin

Last 3: 91, 141, 93 (108 avg)

Last 3 against Collingwood: 118, 123, 134 (125 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 91, 141, 93 (108 avg)

That’s twice in three games he’s fallen under 100. Dusty is scoring horribly whenever he doesn’t kick a goal. His history against Melbourne was already poor though (I just, incorrectly, chose to ignore it) and his history against the Pies is great. I think he bounces back fine. Prediction – 120

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 151, 101, 160 (137 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 126, 62, 115 (101 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: 151, 160, 120 (144 avg)

Last week I said Fyfe would dominate at home and that Fritsch could be out so the loophole was on. I didn’t listen to my own advice and am kicking myself hard. Fyfe’s back at home again this week and will continue to kill it every time he’s there. Prediction – 145

LaHug’s POD

Todd Goldstein

Last 3: 77, 76, 57 (70 avg)

Last 3 against Port: 62, 93, 110 (88 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 77, 123, 92 (97 avg)

Goldstein gets to play the Ryder-less Power. So far, rucks have done the following against them: Stanley – 45 hitouts, Bellcho – 45 hitouts, Martin – 49 hitouts, Sinclair – 44 hitouts, Sandilands – 52 hitouts. Only one of those (Martin’s 154) was a good score though, so VC only again. Prediction – 95
