LaHug’s Captains 2018 – Round 4

0

Three rounds in and Mitchell is yet to fall below 148, so where do we set the line for VC scores? For me, it’s gotta be around that 140 mark. I don’t regret taking Dusty in Round 1 (lost 28 points) and then the choices were more obvious in Round 2 and 3. Don’t take unnecessary risk but assume a 140 is on the cards with Tom.

VC Options – Round 4

Stephen Coniglio

Last 3: 124, 120, 129 (124 avg)

Last 3 against Fremantle: 88, 89, 110 (96 avg)

Last 3 at Manuka: 129, 120, 121 (123 avg)

Great start to the year for Cogs and you know he’s good in Canberra. Not sure if the ceiling is there for the VC though. Prediction – 125

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 160, 120, 75 (118 avg)

Last 3 against GWS: 132, 127, 105 (121 avg)

Last 3 at Manuka: N/A

Fyfe is back and he loves playing the Giants. His ceiling is perfect for the loophole and I think he’s just the better of the two Saturday superstars. Prediction – 135

Dustin Martin

Last 3: 93, 160, 139 (131 avg)

Last 3 against Brisbane: 111, 54, 129 (98 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 93, 160, 139 (131 avg)

Dusty was quiet last week and looked like he was spending lots of time forward. Whether unwell or filling in for Caddy’s absence, I doubt it’ll be a problem this week. I’m looking at Oliver’s 146 against the Lions from two weeks ago and thinking Dusty’s a good loophole option. Prediction – 135

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 131, 142, 120 (131 avg)

Last 3 against Sydney: 123, 98, 68 (96 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 131, 142, 119 (131 avg)

If you want the more unique VC, Macrae is definitely your man. He’s shown that he can crack the magic 140 mark already this year and he’s loving it at Etihad. Prediction – 130

Captain Options – Round 4

Tom Mitchell

Last 3: 149, 148, 167 (155 avg)

Last 3 against Melbourne: 108, 79, 125 (104 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 149, 148, 167 (155 avg)

He doesn’t score as well against the Dees as some other opponents but I honestly don’t think it matters. He’s unstoppable right now. Prediction – 150

Max Gawn

Last 3: 117, 97, 139 (118 avg)

Last 3 against Hawthorn: 168, 115, 118 (134 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 117, 139, 67 (108 avg)

I guess some people might not have Mitchell… If you don’t, Gawn’s a good option this week. Floor of 97 so far isn’t great but you could do worse. Can go big against the Hawks. Prediction – 125

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 100, 130 (115 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 120, 110, 116 (115 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 163, 138, 145 (149 avg)

I doubt too many of you have him but Dangerfield is back at Kardinia this week and that means a big score. He killed it there all of last year and I think he’ll start back on the right foot this week. Prediction – 140

LaHug’s POD

Joel Selwood

Last 3: 78, 140, 125 (114 avg)

Last 3 against St Kilda: 154, 106, 81 (114 avg)

Last 3 at Kardinia: 82, 3, 151 (79 avg)

Selwood had 43 disposals, 8 marks, 9 tackles, and a goal last time he played against the Saints. It’s too risky for my liking with Mitchell available but if you desperately need a POD to win that important league game, give Selwood a crack and see if he can do it again. Prediction – 115
