LaHug’s Captains 2018 – Round 3

0

It’s a Dusty vs. Mitchell battle for best midfielder after two rounds (at least as far as SC is concerned) but they’re not the only ones averaging 130+. Unfortunately for us, almost all of the huge scorers are playing on Sunday so you’ll have to take your pick of the bunch if your loophole fails.

VC Options – Round 3

Patrick Cripps

Last 3: 115, 130 (123 avg)

Last 3 against Collingwood: 101, 84, 127 (104 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 130, 25, 126 (94 avg)

Cripps is looking incredible with a full pre-season under his belt. Against the old rivals, he should be good, but we probably want a higher ceiling from our VC if we’re going to ignore those Sunday players. Prediction – 120

Max Gawn

Last 3: 97, 139 (118 avg)

Last 3 against North: 111, 172, 80 (121 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 139, 67, 78 (95 avg)

Remember that 172 against North in Tassie? That’s the kind of thing Gawn can deliver if you take the punt on him with your VC. Prediction – 120

Clayton Oliver

Last 3: 146, 123 (135 avg)

Last 3 against North: 170, 91, 90 (117 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 123, 117, 99 (113 avg)

Just like his ruckman, Oliver has scored a big 170 against North. Max is the better option this week though as Ben Jacobs is about and tagging. Prediction – 110

Nat Fyfe

Last 3: 120, 75 (98 avg)

Last 3 against Gold Coast: 140, 157, 151 (149 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: 120 (120 avg)

Perth Stadium looks to have replaced Subiaco as a fantasy playground as well as a football stadium. Fyfe returns there this week against a Gold Coast team he has dominated against in the past. Prediction – 145

Stephen Coniglio

Last 3: 120, 129 (125 avg)

Last 3 against Sydney: 116, 108, 96 (107 avg)

Last 3 at SCG: 96, 117, 82 (98 avg)

When I started the season with Cogs, I thought he was a rough chance for a Top 8 midfield spot. Now I’m writing about him being a legitimate captains option just two weeks in. I’m going to pass on giving him the VC until I see a higher ceiling. Prediction – 120

Captain Options – Round 3

Dustin Martin

Last 3: 160, 139 (150 avg)

Last 3 against Hawthorn: 119, 114, 115 (116 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 160, 139, 150 (150 avg)

I’ve had Dusty’s score double both weeks so far and it’s doing quite well for me. He’s been absolutely dominant at the MCG for some time now and he’s good enough against the Hawks to feel safe. Prediction – 140

Tom Mitchell

Last 3: 148, 167 (158 avg)

Last 3 against Richmond: 128, 126, 71 (108 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 148, 167, 128 (148 avg)

It’s a tough call to make but Tom wins this week for me. He scored 148 last week while being tagged. 40 disposals and two goals while tagged. If 148 is Mitchell’s floor, you can set and forget with the captaincy. Prediction – 145

Jack Macrae

Last 3: 142, 120 (131 avg)

Last 3 against Essendon: 100, 83, 136 (106 avg)

Last 3 at Etihad: 142, 119, 61 (107 avg)

In the unlikely case you have neither of the above, Macrae makes for an interesting POD. His team has been smashed and he’s still managed to average above 130. Imagine if the Dogs compete… Prediction – 130

Gary Ablett

Last 3: 144, 116 (130 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 139, 143, 106 (129 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: N/A

I said that GAJ was awesome against the Hawks and he delivered. Did I mention that he’s also quite good against the Eagles? Add to that the fact that Perth Stadium is a midfielder’s dream and he looks the goods again. Prediction – 135

Patrick Dangerfield

Last 3: 130 (130 avg)

Last 3 against West Coast: 141, 119, 128 (129 avg)

Last 3 at Perth: N/A

There don’t seem to be any questions about Danger’s health and he’s straight back to his 130+ scoring ways. Against the Eagles at Perth’s new playground, I expect good things. Prediction – 130

LaHug’s POD

Todd Goldstein

Last 3: 123, 105 (114 avg)

Last 3 against Melbourne: 135, 172, 155 (154 avg)

Last 3 at MCG: 135, 92, 155 (127 avg)

Kudos to anyone that started with Goldy. This week, you’ll reap further rewards. Todd has smashed the Dees in recent matchups and I expect more of the same. An awesome POD. Prediction – 150
